“Christmas came early this year, which is not a bad thing because I love this season. We shot the Christmas campaign for Love Stories with my dream team Paul Bellaart, Jetteke van Lexmond and model Bette Franke in the North of Holland. The theme for this shoot ‘Staying home for Christmas’: dress up, even when you are alone these days. Besides all the amazing props Jetteke brought to the location, I could use the beautiful red dream Chanel jacket which suited the collection perfectly with the Christmas red tones.”

Early in the morning on a beautiful little square in Amsterdam, it was freezing but luckily the sun came up.
I asked photographer Eliza Goedhart to take some pictures of me wearing this beautiful red Chanel jacket. I styled it with a white t-shirt and high waisted oversized jeans to dress it down a little bit.”

“From the moment I put on the jacket, I am in love. What a powerful object! The color, the fabric, the fit. What a gift to be able to experience such a beautiful piece. I decided to wear it one day during my exhibition at The Ravestijn Gallery in Amsterdam. Funny, because it actually really matches some of my new work. In a large-format collage work, I have used images of dolls’ clothes, photographed on colorful backdrops.
By placing the saturated color of the red wool, on top of the green blanket of my studio bed I made an image that I can keep in my archive, and maybe one day it ends up in my work.”
“As a photographer I’m very fortunate I may travel a lot for work sometimes. During COVID-19 that’s been different for sure. Within my own country, I like to travel and explore as well. My biggest inspiration comes from museums. Voorlinden and Kröller-Müller are my favorites in the Netherlands. I really enjoyed visiting sculpture gardens and nature. Therefore I photographed this beautiful red Chanel jacket near to my favorite art object close to where I grew up. I was there during Christmas to celebrate it with my family and lover. This is the look I wore during our family brunch.

“In the midst of canceled holiday festivities and a global pandemic, I found myself connecting with one of the fashion world’s most iconic pieces of clothing.
I had never been close enough to a Chanel jacket to have a true opinion on the matter. But I always thought it was something I would not wear or want.
Although my sentiment has not changed, I have come to appreciate the value of this truly iconic piece.
The sensation of putting the jacket on was quite an experience. It felt I was being hugged and comforted by the jacket. Maybe an experience magnified by the sign of the times, but nonetheless very real.
PS: The dog in the picture is my daughter’s. His name is Karel, lovingly dubbed Karel Lagerfeld during the shoot.”
